Rebecca's Recommendations - July 21, 2006

21 July 2006

By Rebecca Liggero

What craziness! Ok. BetOnSports has some serious issues to deal with. More specifically, the BetOnSports CEO was arrested at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on his way home to Costa Rica. Why? He was charged with racketeering conspiracy for participating in an illegal gambling enterprise. Oh boy. Good luck with that one, my friend. For all the dirt and constant updates on this lovely situation please be sure to visit Gambling 911- here you find everything you ever wanted to know about BetOnSports and the unfortunate load of crap that they are in. So here is the best part. There are 1,000 people planning to attend the Bodog Conference next week, myself included, and many from the sportsbook side of the industry. Can the show go on? This has been a very hot, gossipy, juicy and rumor-filled subject for the past 72 hours. Such fun. So here is what I know. With regards to the conference, Calvin Ayre, Bodog's founder and CEO (as if you didn't already know), released the following official statement:

"The U.S. government has the ability to detain anyone who enters into the U.S. as it sees fit – we all know that and we all abide by their authority within their jurisdiction. At this point, the detention of a high-profile senior executive in the online gaming industry may appear to some as ominous for the online gambling industry, but that is not the case at all. The charges are specific to the person and company at issue, and has nothing to do with Bodog.com's current or previous business practices. Bodog.com, a privately held, Costa Rican-based company, has an innovative and different business model that allows us to run our entertainment enterprise within the laws set out in each of the jurisdictions where we conduct our business. Bodog.com will continue to carry on its business as usual and our organization is quite confident the U.S. government’s actions will have no impact on our operations. We are leading the way in digital entertainment and will continue to do so."

Interesting. That said, guess what just happened? The very much anticipated Bodog Conference was cancelled. CANCELLED! This is an industry first, let me tell you. Immediately following the cancellation, Calvin Ayre released another official statement:

"Bodog was receiving lots of calls from would-be conference attendees who are expressing a high level of concern over the uncertainty surrounding the U.S. government's recent actions against a company in our industry. It is in light of these concerns that we have decided to postpone the Bodog.com Marketing Conference to a later date and at an international location".

Um, Costa Rica please? Anyway, regardless of where the conference will take place, I am still going to Vegas next week to attend the Bodog party (which of course is still happening) and the WSOP. If you will be in Vegas during this time, please come find me at the WSOP parties- I will be wearing a "LOOGWA" shirt along with the sultry Jenny Woo. Trust me, you won't want to miss this.

Alright my players, I hope that you found the BoS/Bodog Conference gossip at least remotely interesting. Probably not. But anyway...now I'm going to tell you how you can win a $60,000 custom made chopper built by OCC (Orange County Chopper). To earn your first entry and to claim the new players sign up bonus, open up and account at Jackpot City Online Casino, The Gaming Club Online Casino, Lucky Nugget Online Casino, and/or River Belle Online Casino and make a first single deposit of $50. All players can earn additional entries into the weekly drawings by wagering 500 credits across any casino games within the weekly draw dates. The final drawing will take place at the end of July and the winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to NYC, a leather "biker" jacket and the $60k custom built chopper. Very nice.

Lastly, I have one more promotion to bring to your attention for this weekend. Millionaire Casino, SuperSlots and English Harbour are all offering a daily 25% bonus on any $100 deposit from Friday, July 21st until Sunday, July 23rd. This special offer is available to both new and existing players and there is a limit of one bonus per account per day. If you have not already done so, I highly, highly recommend opening up an account at one or more of these online gaming sites as I am very close with the team behind each of them. They are fantastic and they will take good care of you, I promise.

Ok, I am off. Stay tuned for my Vegas/WSOP review in a few weeks, and hopefully I won't get arrested while I'm there.Rebecca

Rebecca Liggero

Rebecca Liggero, a native of Wellesley, Massachusetts, has always loved meeting new people, building relationships, and traveling the world – perfect qualities for someone who, since early 2005, has won many friends and influenced countless people in the worldwide online gaming community.

After graduating from Bates College with a degree in psychology, Rebecca spent four years in Washington, DC, working in relationship management, dreaming all the while about someday making it big in online gaming. After turning down an opportunity to live in New Zealand, she moved back to Boston and signed on as Senior Account Manager for Casino City – the beginning of a dream come true!

Rebecca’s work on behalf of Casino City (and later for the GPWA as well) took her to trade shows and conferences everywhere – Amsterdam, Barcelona, Costa Rica, Montreal, London, Las Vegas, Macau and many other ports of call – and along the way she began chronicling her incredible around-the-clock adventures in a wildly entertaining and industry-savvy weekly column that quickly became – and still remains – must reading for everyone who is anyone in online gaming. Following almost three years with the Casino City team, Rebecca spent a few months at Everest Affiliates where she was the Brand Manager of the affiliate program. While working on “the other side,” she realized that she truly missed her weekly column and the affiliate side of the business and decided to return to the Casino City family.

One and a half years later, Rebecca resigned from Casino City and joined industry icon Calvin Ayre to serve as the Bodog Global Brand Ambassador and the head on-site reporter for the online gambling industry tablog, CalvinAyre.com. In her new capacity, Rebecca continues to travel the world, and when asked where she is based, her response is usually "on an airplane."
